First announced on Star Wars Celebration in 2022, Disney+ shared their new TV series, Skeleton Crew. Directed by Jon Watts who also directed the Spider-Man Home Trilogy will be taking charge with Jude Law starring in the series. The concept art shown above has excited fans as it shows four young characters in an unknown territory about to embark on an epic space adventure.
According to Bespin Bulletin, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew started filming at the end of June at Manhattan Beach Studios, which is where The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and The Book of Boba Fett were all filmed. In addition to the previous series’ mentioned, they are filming Ahsoka at Manhattan Beach Studios as well as at an additional studio in Culver City and California State University in Dominguez Hills.

Jon Watts spoke about the series at Celebration and revealed a brief synopsis:
“A story about a group of kids, about 10 years old, from a tiny little planet who accidentally get lost in the Star Wars galaxy. And it’s the story of their journey trying to find their way home… We liked the idea of using kids to give you a different perspective and see the galaxy through a different pair of eyes.”

Kathleen Kennedy, head of Lucasfilm, shared her excitement about the series: “Jon Watts came to me, very much wanting to do a sort of Goonies in Star Wars. Needless to say, I’m going to say yes. And so it’s just evolved out of that kind of enthusiasm in wanting to tell stories in this space.”
The series is set to release sometime next year. Many fans are thankful to see Star Wars branch toward a show with a younger demographic and with younger leads that will hopefully attract families and younger fans alike – engaging all aspects of an audience.
